Father Atwood attended Columbus High School and Drake University in Des Moines, where he received a bachelor of arts degree in journalism/ mass communications.  He earned a master of divinity degree and a master of arts degree in systematic theology from the Josephinum Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. He was named pastor of Sacred Heart and Immaculate Conception in July  2017.

Office hours are Monday 9-12 a.m., and Thursday 9-12 a.m. You may call 319-283-9577 if he is not in the parish office. 

In the event of an emergency, where the services of a priest are needed to administer the Sacrament of the Sick, please call Fr. Atwood at 319-283-9577 if you are not able to reach him at the office.

It has been a blessing from God that I have been called to ordination as a Permanent Deacon in the Archdioceses of Dubuque.  I am married to my wife Cheryl, have two wonderful married adult children and six fantastic grandchildren.   Currently I am retired as Deacon at Sacred Heart Parish in Oelwein, IA and Immaculate Conception Parish in Fairbank, IA.

 While I am considered RETIRED, I remain active.  I am happy to help the parish at any time when called upon.  I look forward to many more years of serving with and for the people of God at Sacred Heart and in our new Pastorate.

In person at the office or on the phone, Rachelle will either be able to help you or direct you to the person who can.   If you have questions or needs concerning Sacred Heart, you can contact Rachelle at our Parish Center who will provide you with the information you need.

The Face of Sacred Heart at the Center, Rachelle is here to help you.  It is a true blessing to have her as our first contact for the Sacred Heart Team.

Director of Faith Formation

As Director of Faith Formation, Nancy is charged with the responsibility of facilitating the work of the parish Faith Formation Commission, directing the Religious Education Program, coordinating the Sacramental Education of our children in the RE program.  She is also the contact person for NCYC (National Catholic Youth Conference), parish youth ministry, OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) and assists with the efforts of general parish life at Sacred Heart. Nany is retiring on June 30th. Anyone interested in her position is asked to contact the parish office. 

Director of Maintenance and Custodial Services

Randy is responsible to work with the parish in general maintenance of facilities.  He assists with custodial duties and helps coordinate work that is needed to be done to maintain all of the grounds and buildings at Sacred Heart.
