The term "Ordinary Time" comes from the Latin word "ordines," meaning a count. This refers to a count of weeks outside Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter Seasons. In these weeks, holy Mother Church reflects on and celebrates the entire mystery of Christ (as opposed to one dimension, such as His death). We reflect on the Kingdom of Heaven, various parables, Our Lord's miracles, and other features of salvation history. The color green, worn in this season, represents hope, promise, and growth. The term "Ordinary Time" does NOT refer to plain, ordinariness. It is instead a wonderful season of prayerful reflection on the mystery of salvation.
